February 20, 2012/ And she is off!

This is a clue to my next ten days.  I am hoping to do some posting.  I got a keyboard for my IPAD so that I can write.  But we will be with people, so I never know how that will work out.  

Two things things that I read or saw on the weekend  struck me as timely.  On the new book by Charles Murray, COMING APART, The state of white America from 1960- 2010.   Amazon says, it explores the  formation of American classes that are different in kind from anything we have ever known.  , focus on whites as a way of driving home the fact that the trends he describes do not break along lines of ethnicity or race.  I only heard the author speak on CNN for a while and am thinking of downloading the book for the airplane.  I graduated in college in 1960, so I am very aware of the changes.  It is no wonder that the Move On group  can not understand us, and we cannot understand them. But isolation of the poor from the upper class is not solving anything.

The other artical I read was by Nathan Jurgenson : Life becomes Picturesque, Facebook and the Claude Glass. A Claude Glass was used as a type of mirror that people used to look over their shoulder and see the sceanery behind them, but it somehow was made to make the scenery more idealic.  This is what we are doing with many of our photographic actions on our cell phones and in photoshop and movies. In fact the reason hung the picture below and took the photo was the Photo actions used to dress up the photos.    I do this myself.  Mainly because it is so fun.  I am guilty of being overly public also which the article talks about. I mainly post on Facebook when I am away.
