About me

People ask me about the name of my blog and the Radish part.  I used radishes because they are visual attractive, round and red. And when old, they are old a little caustic and biting.   Sometimes that is me

I live in Northeastern Florida, and I moved here from Puget Sound of Washington.   My subject matter is always in flux.  I go through different crazes and my blog goes with me.  I enjoy food, photography, I love my family, and I am creative always.  I write about life.   Lately I have included some politics and religion.

And we are.  At my oldest daughters home we are participating in a move, and a high school graduation and a big party.  I cook dinners. More family is arriving and there are trips to and from the airport.  The cat is sick, and the dog is peeing. There is a chance the coffee pot is broken.  The planted pots look beautiful.  Why people in Florida can not figure out lovely color palettes as they do here in Ohio, I will never know.  The groceries are been hauled in.  There is a last minute shop for a slip under the graduation dress.  A new young man shows up for one girl, oh, the other girl is expecting a man to show up.We get to meet the grandsons girl. We are practicing tinto de veranos for the party.

What exciting times.  This is the place to be.

A landmark of Palm Coast, Florida.  Now it is apartments, shops and restaurants.  It was developed as a cancer center with apartments for the patients. and all the doctors etc. on the campus.

Starting today I have family coming, and I am traveling with family and this will go on for weeks.  Blogging is never good when I have family here, but when traveling I sometimes have unscheduled time, as when everyone else goes to work.

Yesterday I called a childhood friend who still lives where we went to high school and Jr. High.  We went  through the litany of how are friends are, and in this case she is the one who knows.  She is the historian, and social secretary.  One of our friends now has Alzheimers, unwilling to cook or clean, and only places games on the computer.  This is the first of personal friends in my age range where demetia/Alzheimers has reared it ugly head. That only happened to my friends parents.

The friend with Alzheimers, her husband says it is very lonely life for the care giver. . This wretched discease is a long one. And very expensive to deal with because one needs help, and one can not be the single caregiver.  It takes so long to die.  There are only a few political characters I would wish this upon.

When I heard about her playing games on the Internet all day,  I was especially embarassed of my playing Spider solitaire. But it has not stopped me much.

Who knew that there is a new word for preoccupation with eating the right or wrong foods:ORTHOREXIA.

This I read about on the blog,  Should you want to read more, read the column listed at the bottom.  I am a little guilty of this myself.  However, I have more or less settled on eating food that my grandmother might have cooked. I keep additives as low as possible, but I am crazy about sausage so there you go.

Reading the blog on one thing leads to another.  The Author Ruby Tandoh has a cookbook named CRUMB and so then I looked up that book to see if she had seed bread recipes in it.  She did have one , and it was easy, but she used a term that led me to a whole new search for seeded bread which I have been hunting for a good, easy ,tasty recipe.  She used the term seeded tin loaf.  This term set me out on a whole new search.  An hour later I am writing this.   I think we can see how my time goes.  So now I do not have any time for my post.  But I will be baking a seeded tin loaf today.

Mr Radish and I have just found Amazon Prime Movies.  In our new found vastly reduced concentration on politics, we have taken up movies.  We are watching, finishing up the first season of BOSCH. It is a murder mystery series: well acted, and well written.  Bosch is a LA police departement detective created by a Michael Conneley who was a writer for the LA Times.  He apparently wrote quite a few books which starred Bosch.  We are glued to the set.  Watching this series is really similar to when we were watching the series, 24. Only watch Bosch if you can stand blood and guts.

The above photo a compilation of three photos from our trip to Jacksonville last Tues.

Today, when I opened the door this morning there was a package at the doorstep.  It was a box from Nordies, and there is something special about opening a box from there.  I took a photo because, I will forget that rush of excitement, the pink bow around the Jo Malone box, the dear cards.  The real gifts are the two fragrances: strawberry parsley, and carrot flower and fennel, but the whole deal of unwrapping the package and how it all lay on the counter was beautiful.  The herbs smell great.
