This is January 5, and it is one continuous gray month. No let up. The kids are still here and it has been fun. Today, yesterday and the day before the girls and I have been having sewing classes. Mary J and sister are showing real aptitude. Both are working on quilts and are picking up the rudimentary of working with the sewing machine. MJ's is a piece of crap and so I let her sew on Callies. My Mary J is very intuitive about what has gone wrong. But I can be a teacher only so long. Especially when the machine continues to become unthread. It is though a real thrill to see the girls coming along.
Christmas was a blast even if I was sick. I was in charge of the Prime Rib period. And I am pleased that I can almost do a roast or turkey at will. If not in the anticipated time. MK made wonderful tables and we set up a large folding table in the living room to accomodate the 14 people. Present opening was fun. It took nearly two hours and everyone had opened most of their gifts before coming. Presents for the kids went well, but especially the marble maze that the kids spent hours at. If I have one suggestion for next year, it is to not buy good wine. There is so much chaos that you hardly know that you are drinking.
On the 27th Michael took the Rogers and Mere to the Nutcracker. Apparently everyone had a good time, but MJ was in rapture. Then Stewart Kershaw took them back stage afterward. No ballerina as hoped for , but the got a pretty thorough tour.
Today I am home alone as Michael and all the Rogers are meeting Meredith and are going to the Nutcracker ballet in Seattle. After wards they are all going backstage to meet the ballerina. Stewart Kershaw is arranging that .I have sent my camera with Callie in the hopes that she takes lots of pictures. I would love to see the kids faces. I have never been to the Nutcracker. I , who took ballet in 4th grade.
I still am not strong, but I do hope to go to Victoria tomorrow. As long as I do not have to walk, I think I will be fine.
Due to God-knows-what, Sally Haines Calligan, A.K.A. "The Red Radish", has been in bed for two days. Randy Rogers, A.K.A. "Handy Hogers", has arrived from Brazil. My ever beautiful granddaughter is helping me with this blog.
Pizza, Chex mix, gingerbread cookies.
I am adding because I want to see if it is possible. Our dinner for tonight is homemade pizza and I am counting on the girls to do it. I am so happy for this little stretch of peace as I doing stuff like making Christmas calls to old friends.
