Radishes are supposedly able to be picked in 28 days. I have about 18 to go. I was not going to plant any vegetables this year, because last summer was so cool that not much grew. This summer is to be warmer than usual across the country, except of course in the Pacific Northwest. I have my niece to thank for radish planting. She sent a picture, postcard perfect, of her radishes, which she is eating for breakfast because they are so mild. My radish planting is making me feel like a farmer.

May 16, 2012

This is my example of ringing an item with light.

But as you can see my chives are in full bloom, as is the thyme, only more so. There seems to be no shortage of bees although I do not see any in the picture. I use chives all the time in everything at this time of year. This year you could say I am farming chives. Yesterday they went in scrambled eggs.

Support your local bees and plant chives and thyme.

May 15, 2012/ If you are vegetarian, don't read this.

This old house is on the Pioneer Highway in Skagit County here in Washington. This is a Sears House that was ordered by catalogue and assembled here. I think there are about 100 of these homes in this northwest area of Washington.

For those of you who said a little prayer for the CPAP experience, I am thrilled to announce that Mr. Radish wore the mask all night.

Warm weather comes, (here it is not permanent) and I feel like a farmer. This has been spawned by several books that I have read: THE DIRTY LIFE, and THE FEAST NEARBY. I am not suggesting you read these books, I only tell you to explain where I am coming from. Both of these books made me want to have chickens. And if you look on the Internet, there are absolutely darling chicken coops.

I have had chickens in the past. Frankly they terrified me. The run was hard to clean and we did not have a box that you merely reached in and got the eggs. Still I think I am braver now and I could just wear boots to keep them from pecking my legs. But I suddenly remembered that I would have to kill them. I looked again on the Internet to see the best way of doing this. Recommended was by holding their legs with them upside down, against your chest, and then pull/jerk the head down away from the body. I really do not think I could do this.

But the coops are really darling.

I think my radishes are breaking ground today.

May 14, 2012

It has been so long since I have written that I do not have an opening sentence.

Today is a day that I have been waiting maybe 40 years. It is the day my husband gets his CPAP machine. Say a little prayer for the two of us. The day is clear and warm, the drive will be beauiful. I have a totally clean computer. I had a WONDERFUL Mother's Day. This is as good as it can get. I am grateful.

May 2, 2012

I DO NOT HAVE A PICTURE TODAY BECAUSE GOOGLE CHROME DOES NOT WANT TO WORK ON MY COMPUTER. IT HAS DIED. NO PROBLEM (AU CONTRARE), I GO TO EXPLORER, BUT THEY DO NOT WANT TO WORK BECAUSE I DID NOT CHOOSE THEM AS MY NUMBER ONE BROWSER, SO THEY ARE STICKING THEIR TONGUE OUT AT ME. THIS IS GOING TO TAKE TWO DAYS TO FIX, IF I AM LUCKY.

Mr. Radish and I are in the midst of bleeding money to what ever has recently broken, or in his words gone "tits up".

The phones are going, but we are putting them off. My hard drive was full of photographs, so we bought a Tetra something external hard drive. Something which holds this much is off the charts for me to understand. In any case, while he was installing the hard drive, my computer mouse died. Back to the store. We had known that the printer was problematic, but we thought fresh cartridges were all it needed. But no, it was unable to print. Back to the store.

I am thinking the washing machine is next, or the drier, because this year the hot water heater has been replaced, and the dishwasher as long as the chamber for rinse goop is filled, it does well. Wait, it could be the roof.

Actually I do not need to be alone, I was just working on this for a class.

Thank you for watching the video below. I enjoyed doing it.

For you foodies, I am reading a wonderful book on cooking, AN EVERLASTING MEAL, BY Tamar Adler. It is a cooking book with very few recipes in the style of MFK Fisher, who I loved. It has a thousand ideas, but you have to like to read. I liked her organizing tips like, always have parsley' and when you get home from the store, clean the parsley, cut the stems off and break up the pieces. That way you will want to use the parsley you have. And parsley adds to every thing.

Boom Park is on the north end of our island. Mr. Radish has had a debilitating something, likely a reaction to all the tree pollen that we have. He has been at home convalescing, but today I wanted to get out in the semi sun to take some photographs. We have been here before, but it was very crowded, and there was limited parking. Today we walked around and read every sign.

I have been involved with a video class. As I said before, the learning curve was steep, and it is not an exaggeration to say that for me, it could have been physics. Soon I will put up my final project for the class, although I think I will do one more. Each little video, I learned so much. But I have been spread very thin. So I have not posted much. My Project Life has suffered and I think that when I go back to doing it, it will seem child's play.

April 19, 2012

I have spent a week making this two minutes video. Then I spent the second week getting it on line. I have shown it to no one, including my husband who offered to tell me what needed fixing. I raised my voice and said, I KNOW WHAT NEEDS FIXING, I JUST CANT FIX IT. Maybe stopping smoking was harder than this, but I am not sure. This is the end of my life as a film director. Maybe I can do slideshows.

The quality of film is bad, but that is what it took to get it up here. And the title should read the FIELDS OF SKAGIT VALLEY. Film making and editing takes a lot of balls in the air. I think this experiement took care of grey matter for the year, and I do not have to do a project until next year.
